A few weeks ago I wrote a blog entry about recognizing and avoiding burn out before it hits. Unfortunately I spoke way too soon.
I’ve got a long-standing pattern in my life. Work work work work. I get hyper focused, get lots of interesting stuff done, then collapse in a depressed exhaustion which sometimes last a few days and in at least one case lasted two years. When I’m in that state, I’m not capable of doing much more than reading lots of books, watching movies, and struggling in to work and getting enough done to make sure the bills get paid.
And that’s where I am. I’ve got the blahs. I’ve read about twenty books in the last two weeks, but written very little. Missed my personal deadline for Episode 3 of Insurgent (though I’m really close!).
All I can say is it’s a good thing my vacation starts in a week. Veronica and the kids and I are taking off to Cocoa Beach for nearly a week. A chance to mentally recover.
So, episode 3 will be delayed at least a week or two more. I’ve got about 6 or so more scenes to write (punched out four in the last two days). The good news is, usually by the time I realize I’ve burnt out, I’m already on my way out of it.
